This is the 2nd edition of Lady Wentworth's reference work on the Arabian horse much of which was her mother, Lady Anne blunts work from her 'Book of Fragments' which was never published in her lifetime. This edition includes a number of revisions to the original work.

Description of this book from the flysheet:

Lady Wentworth’s great work on the Authentic Arabian Horse has, in spite of a keen demand, been out of print for many years. This was largely because the author felt the need to revise it thoroughly in the fight of the additional information that she had 'accumulated in the interval. This she was able to do before she died, and the book is now considerably enlarged as well as wholly revised and contains many new illustrations.

The author was unquestionably the world’s greatest authority on the Arabian horse and drew together an enormous mass of knowledge of its breeding, antecedents and its effect upon other breeds, which was supplemented by her own lifelong experience of the Arab breed. Incorporated in the book is also the life-work of Lady Anne Blunt, who left at her death a quantity of manuscript on the subject of Arabia and its horses and tribes. This book is already established as a unique source of information for all breeders of horses, apart from its fascination for everyone interested in thoroughbreds.

Among the many illustrations are reproductions of paintings of famous horses that are unobtainable elsewhere.

Of the original edition, Sporting Life wrote:

‘No Arab lover who can afford it will fail to secure a copy, but there must also be a considerable section of the general public which will find delight in its fascinating pages, and especially in its wonderful illustrations.

. . . The reader will be overcome with the lavish display which is spread out before him, as for a feast. . . . The illustrations, in short, comprise a museum and an art gallery in one.’ and the Field:

‘A book drawn up with meticulous care . . . of immense interest and value to all connected with breeding, racing and the thoroughbred stock of this country.’

This book is in excellent condition. The Dust Jacket has a small tear but otherwise very good. Includes hundreds of photographs and plates of Crabbet and other horses. An essential addition to any Arabian Library.
