Indian Magic Gr. 1944 - 1972

Raktha x Indian Crown

Indian Magic was a stunning grey stallion full of presence, power and flamboyant action., arguably the greatest result of Lady Wentworth’s breeding strategy, or as Lady Anne Lytton said,

"Indian Magic was, I think, Lady Wentworth’s masterpiece." Cecil Covey

This was due not only to years of her own dedicated and intelligent breeding plan but decades of observing her parents breeding from the ancestors of her horses.

Indian Magic is by the beautiful grey stallion Raktha (Naseem x Razina) out of the scopey chestnut mare Indian Crown. In type as well as pedigree, Indian Magic represented the perfect combination of Skowronek and Nureddin.  Once Lady Wentworth had discovered the successful "nick" with Raktha and Indian Crown she repeated it frequently, but not every year as this would have limited her options with such a good broodmare.

A number of Indian Magic’s offspring were exported to America, including Indian Silver, bred in the UK and brought back here to leave one pure Crabbet son, Ibn Silver. Indian Silver is sire of Aliha, World Champion owned by the Maxwells. His daughter, Silver Magic, produced Silvadoris, extremely influential in endurance pedigrees before being exported to Australia.  Other sons leaving lines in England were Indriss, Scindian Magic (ex Scindia) Rafid (ex Sunset), and Shirar (ex Sirella). However the most significant pure Crabbet lines are through his sons, Indian Flame II and the full brother Indian Star.

Cecil Cvey described Indian Magic as

"having a wonderful tail carriage at all times with good limbs and feet. Wonderful flowing action which he transmitted to all his stock. He had great presence. When being shown to visitors loose in his paddock he would dance on his hind legs at a command from F. Rice."
